​At our first Search Team meeting in January 2021, the seven members that were voted onto the Search Team all agreed to a covenant of prayer, trust, honesty, accountability, and unity.  That covenant was lived out over the past year of serving together. We have recognized the opportunity and responsibility of our positions and we have worked hard to seek God’s direction in every aspect of our service.  The RCBC Search Team has spent much time preparing and praying for our next pastor and we are excited to introduce you to the candidate that we have unanimously agreed to put forward to the church.

We believe that God has directed us to Jon Brewer.  His gifts and passion align with the direction that Rush City Baptist Church is in need of.  We believe Jon will challenge and encourage us to build new opportunities to further the Kingdom of God. 

In this packet you will find a little bit about Jon and Amanda Brewer and a schedule of where you can meet and greet them while they are here for the Candidacy Visit.

Jon is currently serving at Lake Shore Baptist Church in Pasadena, Maryland, where he has been preaching and serving as the Senior Pastor since 2016.  

Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, raised primarily in southern West Virginia, Jon made his profession of faith and was baptized when he was 10 years old. His entire childhood was framed by service to the church. His father was a minister, and each member of the family served officially or unofficially in whatever capacity necessary.

While at college at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, Jon majored in Music Education and served primarily in Music & Worship at his church. Jon returned to Memphis to help care for his father before his passing. After college, he worked in Hotel and Hospitality Management, Event Services, Computer Repair, and Audio/Visual Equipment Service and Rentals.

Jon’s wife Amanda was born in Mississippi outside of Memphis, Tennessee and grew up in the surrounding area. She attended Mississippi University for Women and graduated with a degree in Graphic Design.  Amanda works at Lake Shore Baptist Church as an Administrative Assistant and also works independently as an artist.

Jon began to pursue full-time ministry opportunities in 2013, which brought him and Amanda to Maryland right after their wedding. Jon’s first full-time ministry position was as the Director of Music and Worship Arts at a United Methodist Church. At this time, he began taking seminary coursework to prepare for “the next step” whatever that ended up being. Jon graduated with a Bachelor of Theology Degree from Andersonville Theological Seminary in 2017. This path ultimately led Jon to Lake Shore Baptist Church, where he first served as their Worship Pastor and ultimately as their Senior Pastor. 

Jon and Amanda are busy parents to Maxwell, who turns 2 in March.  They also had their daughter, Lily, in 2018 who was with them for a couple weeks before she passed away due to complications from Trisomy-18. 

Jon and Amanda enjoy spending their free time exploring and traveling, seeing new places, and checking out zoos, aquariums, and museums.
